The first faint rosy tinge away in the eastern sky indicates that the long night is at last coming to an end, especially when the night has been a long hard night filled with terror, then the sun is most welcome and is literally a life saver.
The dawning of a new day means new hope and strength for another day. As if by magic, the first illumination of the sun has quieted the restless footsteps of the darkest night, and noises recede into yesterday.
The sun has a very special meaning to Indian people, it is a symbol of better things to come, warmth to the hearts of the people, out of that comes Love. It represents fire to the soul it serves. The stream of life represented by the narrow inlet joining our love with the Creator has a vet symbolic meaning to one who suffers from the dreaded disease of alcoholism…
In Memory of Percy Sangret
With the vision now turning to reality, the Chief and Council of Beaver Lake Cree Nation saw construction begin in August 1984, of an eventual 10 bed, 10 day program with 14 staff. Due to need in 1985, the Wah Pow Detox Centre expanded to a 42 day program with 25 beds. In 1995, four family units were added, and it is now known as Beaver Lake Wah Pow Treatment Centre. After extensive work by then Director Doreen Lameman, a new building was added.
